PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for detecting channel quality information in a communication system are provided to adaptively estimate a channel according to a wireless channel environment. CONSTITUTION: A channel estimating unit(440) comprises a low speed channel estimator and a high speed channel estimator. The high speed channel estimator estimates a high speed environment channel according to moving speed of a communication terminal using a feedback signal. A CQI decoding unit(470) obtains a low speed CQI under a low speed environment channel. The decoding unit obtains a high speed CQI under the high speed environment channel. A power comparing unit(480) determines higher one of power values of the low speed CQI or the high speed CQI.
