<p>A thermal barrier protective coating on a superalloy metal substrate is produced by the formation of a liaison sub-layer of an intermetallic compound made up of at least aluminum and a platinum group metal and the formation of a ceramic outer layer which anchors onto a film of alumina on the surface of the sub-layer. The liaison sub-layer, preferably with a thickness of less than 50 microns, is formed by vapor phase physical deposition of a plurality of alternative elementary layers of platinum group metal and aluminum and by exothermic reaction between the metals of the layers formed. An Independent claim is included for a gas turbine component produced by this method for producing a thermal barrier protective coating.</p> |
