Disclosed is a vertical-type centrifugal separation apparatus which is provided with a mechanism for automatically discharging solid material produced during centrifugal separation, after said centrifugal separation has taken place. The vertical-type centrifugal separation apparatus comprises: a casing (4); a bowl (5) which is rotatably housed in the casing (4) and serves to separate a liquid under treatment which is supplied therein into liquid and solid material using centrifugal force, and then to discharge the separated material; and a discharge member (6) which is rotatably housed in the bowl (5) and serves to discharge the solid material from inside the bowl. The bowl and the discharge member are provided with an alignment part for aligning/releasing alignment of said bowl and discharge member by relative movement thereof in the axial direction, and a position-matching mechanism for positional-matching of the phase of the discharge member and the bowl in one place about the axis of rotation thereof, for example. When the liquid under treatment undergoes centrifugal separation, the discharge member and the bowl rotate as a single piece in a state of alignment in which the phase produced by the position-matching mechanism is maintained, and relative rotation is possible by release of the state of alignment.
