The conveyor has a series of claws (2) movable with respect to an endless belt, so that the claws selectively occupy either an active position in which the claws are projected with respect to a surface of the belt to penetrate effectively in the transported product, or an inactive position in which the claws are retracted below the level of the belt. Control units are provided so that the claws occupy the active position on an outward upper strand (10) and the claws are retracted automatically when the claws arrive at a downstream end, or near the downstream end of the belt.
