METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CODING DEPTH MAP USING BIT-PLANE CODING

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for coding a depth map using bit-plane coding are provided to respectively code each bit-plane after dividing a depth map by a bit-plane unit. CONSTITUTION: Each pixel of a depth map is converted into a gray code. The converted depth map is classified by a bit-plane unit. Each bit-plane is coded. A bit rate is controlled when coding the depth map. A bit plane coding unit outputs information which codes each bit-plane by a bit stream. A bit rate control unit selects a bit-plane for coding or selects a smaller area than the bit-plane.
