PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to realize high purity and high efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A transparent substrate(1) includes a plurality of unit pixel areas(21). The unit pixel area is composed of a driver area(21a) and a light control area(21b). A transparent pixel electrode(213a) is arranged in the light control area. A switching device includes a semiconductor channel(211c) arranged in the driver area and a gate(211g) corresponding to the channel. A photonic crystal color filter(300) selects a wavelength of the light inputting to the pixel electrode.
