<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer of high reliability suppressing a lift of a sheet on a platen and surely conveying the sheet. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The printer includes an abutting member 21 whose tangential direction to the outer periphery of a carrier roller 3 is obliquely upward with respect to a support face of the platen 5, and a pinch roller 4 whose tangential direction is obliquely downward with respect to the support face of the platen 5. A controller 10 controls the rotation of the carrier roller 3 and abutment of the pinch roller 4 so that the sheet is held and conveyed by the carrier roller 3 and the abutting member 21 in the separated state of the pinch roller 4 and that the tip of the sheet lands on the support face of the platen 5 by switching the pinch roller 4 from separation to abutment.
