<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystallization procedure for selectively forming a hemipentahydrate form or a monohydrate form. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There are provided 3-pyridyl-1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-bisphosphonic acid sodium hemipentahydrate and monohydrate, a method of preparing the hemipentahydrate or monohydrate through control of a nucleation temperature and a rate of crystallization, and a pharmaceutical composition containing one or both of the hydrate forms.
