PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of detecting a subject, and to lessen any weak hypothesis, and to quicken the detection processing of the subject, and to reduce a memory. SOLUTION: An evaluation value calculation dictionary storage unit 300 stores an evaluation value calculation dictionary including the plurality of combinations of two positions in a decision subject image, a threshold, and the value (αH orαL) of two weighted majority associated with a plurality of face directions. An evaluation value calculation unit 235 extracts the luminance values of two points in the decision subject image according to two positions included in the evaluation value calculation dictionary, and compares a difference value between the luminance values of the two points with the threshold by combination. Also, an evaluation value calculation unit 235 selects any of the value (αH orαL) of the two weighted majority according to the comparison results, and sequentially performs the arithmetic operation of the selected value for calculating the evaluation value by direction of the plurality of faces.
