PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of a high-speed focus operation even for a dark subject. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging means 102 operable to output an image signal of a subject; a gain adjusting means 103 operable to adjust a gain of the image signal for a focus operation period; a frame rate adjusting means 104c operable to change a read frame rate of the image signal; and a control means 104a operable to instruct the gain adjusting means 103 to set the gain high when the frame rate adjusting means sets the read frame rate high.
