The method involves assigning weights to criteria e.g. temporary fast route, cheap route, scenically beauty route, route without tunnels and motorways, and outputting the criteria and the weights to a user over an output unit. The weights are changed by the user over a control unit, and a target preset by an optimization problem is evaluated based on the weights by inputting a release command by the user over the control unit. The target is calculated based on the weights when the user inputs the command, and information about the calculated target is output to the user over the output unit. An independent claim is also included for a computer-aided device for multi-criteria optimization of a route of a motor vehicle comprising a processor for releasing an optimization problem depending on criteria.
