PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlled release tablet for an antihyperglycemic drug that does not contain an expanding polymer. SOLUTION: The controlled release tablet includes (a) a core containing (i) 75-95 wt.% of metformin hydrochloride based on the weight of the core, (ii) 3-15 wt.%, based on the weight of the core, of a water-soluble binder, and (iii) 2-20 wt.% of an absorption potentiating agent each based on the weight of the core, (b) a water-soluble seal coat optionally enveloping the core, and (c) a modification polymer film that covers the core or a core enveloped by the optional seal coat.
