<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality in observing the face of user's own or the like while using a display screen of a cellular phone with a camera as a mirror. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an imaging apparatus in which a subject image is made incident through a photographing lens to a solid-state imaging device for obtaining an image signal representing the subject image. The imaging apparatus comprises: a focusing means for changing a focal position of the photographing lens so as to focus a subject; a display screen, for displaying thereon an image based on the image signal, capable of turning a display surface toward a direction wherein a photographer can visually confirm his own face image while photographing a subject image including the face of photographer's own; and a control unit for automatically switching the focusing means from a mode for focusing a middle-range view or distant view subject to a mode for focusing a close-range view subject (step S4) when a ratio of a size of the face image with respect to an imaging area of the solid-state imaging device becomes equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold.
