<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type continuously variable transmission for a vehicle, which can prevent a movable pulley from falling. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A variable pulley 42 includes: a first oil chamber 70 formed of an outer cylinder member 81, an outer piston 96 and the like; and a second oil chamber 72 formed of an inner cylinder member 82, an outer cylinder part 66 and the like. A hydraulic pressure by the first oil chamber 70 is applied to the outer circumference part of a movable pulley 42b through the outer cylinder part 66 brought into contact with the outer piston 96 constituting the first oil chamber 70. When the movable pulley 42b moves in the direction to narrow the width of a V-groove across a switching position, a second oil supply passage 107 and an oil supply passage 78 are blocked, and the condition wherein an operation hydraulic pressure is supplied to the first oil chamber 70 and the second oil chamber 72 is switched to the condition wherein the operation hydraulic pressure is exclusively supplied to the first chamber 70, so that a pressing force given to the movable pulley 42b is applied to the outer circumference part of the movable pulley 42b via the outer cylinder part 66 by a hydraulic pressure of the first oil chamber 70.
