Iron orthophosphate of the general formula FePOx nHO (n < 2.5) prepared by a process in which iron, iron or mixed iron compounds selected from among hydroxides, oxides, oxidehydroxides, oxide hydrates, carbonates and hydroxidecarbonates are reacted with phosphoric acid having a concentration in the range from 5% to 50%, any iron present after the reaction is converted into iron by addition of an oxidant and solid iron orthophosphate is separated off from the reaction mixture. |
