The method involves temporarily supplying cooling medium to a dosing device (18) i.e. selective catalytic reduction (SCR) dosing module. Liquid of a system arranged outside of an exhaust tract of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, is used as the cooling medium, where the liquid is selected from one of condensed water of an air conditioning system (12), washing liquid of a windscreen washer system, washing liquid of a headlamp washer system and/or rainwater of a collection device. Temperature reduction is calculated depending on an evaporation enthalpy of the liquid. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an apparatus for cooling a dosing device for applying exhaust gas with a medium into an exhaust tract of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle (2) a method for modeling temperature of a component i.e. dosing valve tip, of a dosing device i.e. selective catalytic reduction (SCR) dosing module.
