<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head and a magnetic storage device in which occurrence of a undershoot magnetic field is suppressed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This is the magnetic head having a main magnetic pole applying a magnetic field to a magnetic recording medium and a side shield including two regions, a first region of the side shield is positioned at the vicinity of the main magnetic pole, also its form is like that progress direction side size being size of a progress direction of the magnetic recording medium reaches a position of the main magnetic pole, a second region of the side shield is adjacent to the first region, also the form is like that progress direction side size becomes longer than progress direction side size of the first region in the direction of reverse side to progress direction of the magnetic recording medium.
