<p>Provided is the outer member of a constant speed universal joint having stabilized quality by minimizing occurrence of cracking at the joint of the constant speed universal joint. The outer member of a constant speed universal joint is equipped with a cup (1) in which a plurality of track grooves are formed, and a shaft (2) having one end coupled with the bottom of the cup (1). When members having different amounts of carbon are joined and subjected to induction hardening, quenching heat-affected areas by induction hardening, quenching heat-unaffected areas by induction hardening, joint heat-affected areas susceptible to heat generated at the time of joining, and joint heat-unaffected areas which are not susceptible to heat generated at the time of joining are formed. A Martensite structure is eliminated from the joint heat-affected areas, at the end (25) including an end face (23) joined to a member having a low amount of carbon, in the quenching heat-unaffected areas of a member having a high amount of carbon.</p> |
