PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for reproducing a video from an external storage device are provided to enable a user to reproduce and watch a video file last stored in an external storage device if the power of the external storage device is turned on and a video display device is connected to the video output port of the external storage device. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for reproducing a video from an external storage device comprises a storage(130), a video reproducing part(150), and a controller(120). Video files are stored in the storage. The video reproducing part reproduces the video file stored in the storage to output to a video output port. The controller controls the storing operation of the video files into the storage. The controller retrieves the video file stored in the storage to enable the video reproducing part to reproduce it. The controller controls the video reproducing part to reproduce the video file stored in the storage. The video file retrieving step further comprises the step of retrieving the video file last stored in the storage.
