<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an STR heat engine having high thermal efficiency effectively utilizing the expansion force of fluid within the engine due to heat generated by the burning within the engine and heat outside the engine and a contractile force generated by heat loss of the fluid within the engine thermally-expanded by the expansion force to the outside of the engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When fluid in a high temperature room 1 is heated or burned and fluid in a low temperature room 3 is cooled, a piston A with a partition plate is moved upward due to a push-force and pull-force. When the piston A reaches an upper position, a high and low temperature room communication passage 9 is opened. When the piston A with the partition plate is moved downward by equalizing the inner pressure in the high temperature room 1 and the low temperature room 3, the fluid is introduced into the high temperature room 1 from the outside while the fluid in the high temperature room flows into the low temperature room.
