PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium fixing device which can stably fix and hold a stiff medium such as a cardboard, and to provide an image forming apparatus applying the same. SOLUTION: A suction force of a suction groove (50) which sucks an end part of the medium is made stronger than that of a suction groove (60) which sucks a center part of the medium, among a plurality of suction grooves (50 and 60) for sucking the sheetlike medium. The flow rate per unit length of the suction groove (50) corresponding to the end part is made larger than a flow rate per unit length of the suction groove (60) corresponding to the center part. A width W<SB>1</SB>of the suction groove (50) corresponding to the end part of the medium is widened to increase a cross sectional area of a reducing part (52) connected with the suction groove (50).
