Provided is an optical connector which can ensure efficient work for attaching an incorporated optical fiber to a ferrule, work for removing the coating on the distal end side of a coated optical fiber, and work for attaching an optical connector to a coated optical fiber, while preventing fall of transmission characteristics in the optical connector. A method for attaching the optical connector to a coated optical fiber is also provided. The optical connector (101) comprises a ferrule (140) into which a glass fiber (121) obtained by stripping the coating (124) of a coated optical fiber (120) is inserted, a securing portion (130) for securing the coated optical fiber (120) inserted into the ferrule (140), and a coating removing portion (110) for removing the coating (124) from the end of the coated optical fiber (120) with the force for inserting the coated optical fiber (120) into the optical connector (101).
