<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens system, an imaging device and a camera, suitable for wide angle photography not only with high resolution but also with a wide field angle at a wide angle end, and having respectively a short total lens length, a very small size and high performance, while keeping a high zooming ratio exceeding three times. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the zoom lens system including successively from the object side to the image side, at least the first lens group having a negative power, the second lens group having a positive power, and the third lens group having a negative power, when zooming from the wide angle end to a telescopic end at the imaging time, at least the second lens group and the third lens group among the first lens group, the second lens group and the third lens group are moved along an optical axis, to thereby perform variable magnification, and a condition: 0.40<L<SB>G3</SB>/f<SB>W</SB><2.00 is satisfied. The imaging device and the camera are also provided. (f<SB>T</SB>/f<SB>W</SB>≥3.2, L<SB>G3</SB>: a distance from the most object side to the most image side of the third lens group, f<SB>T</SB>: a focal distance of the whole system at the telescopic end, f<SB>W</SB>: a focal distance of the whole system at the wide angle end).
