<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell with safety, having high capacity and excellent in charge/discharge cycle characteristics, as an anode occludes lithium at charging. <P>SOLUTION: As an anode active material of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell, solid solution represented by formula (1): Li<SB>x</SB>M<SP>1</SP><SB>y</SB>M<SP>2</SP><SB>z</SB>is used.
