PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the focusing position at a higher speed, with high accuracy by a contrast detection system for a photographic image which includes a high-luminance subject and a low-contrast subject. SOLUTION: The subject is detected from the photographic image by face feature extraction processing and is specialized according to a kind of the subject, or the like, detected in advance, to decide the area which becomes an obstacle to normal arithmetic operation of an AF evaluated value, prior to performing automatic focusing operation, and the AF evaluated value is arithmetically calculated, by using an area that remains after excepting the area from respective AF areas of a multi-area AF. Thus, invalid arithmetic operation of the AF evaluated value is reduced, and a quicker high-accuracy automatic focusing operation is realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
