The automatic calibration method involves emitting an electronic index signal (idx) during the deflections of a servo steering system (1) in a neutral position, particularly straight line driving position of the servo steering system. The neutral position of the electronic servo steering system is characterized by a pre-determined steering angle value or a pre-determined angle value of the servo steering system, where the angle value is correlated with the steering angle. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program with program code units; (2) a computer program product with data carrier; and (3) an electronic servo steering system with steering handle.
