PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens system with high performance by having both of a wide field angle at an wide angle end and a zooming ratio while being compact, and to provide an imaging apparatus and a camera. SOLUTION: The zoom lens system includes a first positive power lens group, a second negative power lens group, a third positive power lens group, and a fourth positive power lens group in order from an object side to an image side. The first lens group and the second lens group are composed of three lens elements respectively. In zooming from the wide angle end to a telescopic end in imaging, the first lens group, the second lens group, the third lens group, and the fourth lens group are moved along an optical axis respectively to perform variable magnification so that an air space between each lens group and the lens group is changed, and the zoom lens system, the imaging apparatus and the camera satisfy conditions: 8.50≤L<SB>W</SB>/I<SB>r</SB>≤11.85, 11.50≤L<SB>T</SB>/I<SB>r</SB>≤15.84,ω<SB>W</SB>≥35 and f<SB>T</SB>/f<SB>W</SB>≥10. Herein, L<SB>W</SB>, L<SB>T</SB>: lens entire length at wide angle end and telescopic end, respectively, I<SB>r</SB>: the maximum image height,ω<SB>W</SB>: half field angle at wide angle end, f<SB>T</SB>, f<SB>W</SB>: focal lengths of entire system at telescopic end and wide angle end, respectively.
