<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the controller of a gas sensor preventing the damage of the gas sensor by rapidly returning the gas sensor to a normal state when wiring abnormality is eliminated in case the wiring abnormality is provisionally detected, and putting the gas sensor in an off-state of electric current after the decision of abnormality. <P>SOLUTION: The controller 1 of the gas sensor is equipped with: the gas sensor 8 having cells 14 and 24 equipped with solid electrolytes 13 and 23 and a plurality of the electrodes 12, 16, 22 and 28 provided to the solid electrolytes; a heater 43; a sensor driving circuit 52 for passing electric current through the cells; a heater control circuit 60; a wiring abnormality detecting means 58 for detecting wiring abnormality; and a control means 9 for passing electric current of intermediate voltage which is below the maximum voltage of the heater and equal to or more than a voltage capable of keeping the activation temperature of the cells, through the heater when the wiring abnormality is detected, and deciding the wiring abnormality to put the gas sensor in an off-state of electric current in case the occurrence of the wiring abnormality exceeds a predetermined frequency. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
