PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional liquid-absorbing resin-forming resin composition that the liquid absorbing power of a formed material is reduced and gel is separated after liquid absorption, and further safety and handleability are poor, and that the shapes formed from the resin composition are limited to only sheet-like and fiber-like shapes. SOLUTION: The resin composition (C) contains a polymer (A) and has a solid content of 80-100 wt.% and a gelation rate of 0-40%. The method for producing a liquid-absorbing resin comprises crosslinking the resin composition by a crosslinking method including heating and/or irradiating with radiation. The polymer (A) contains structural units (a) having at least one kind of functional group, selected from the group comprising a carboxy group, a sulfonic acid group, and functional groups obtained by substituting protons of the functional groups with an onium cation or alkali metal cation, in an amount of 20-100 wt.% based on the weight thereof, and in the polymer (A), the onium cation substitution percentage is 30-100 mol%.
