PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of improving a numerical aperture while suppressing parasitic capacitance, and to provide a display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element includes: a plurality of scanning lines 11 and a plurality of signal lines 12 arranged in a matrix on a first substrate 10; TFTs 1 arranged on intersection parts between the scanning lines 11 and the signal lines 12; a first insulating film 13 disposed on the first substrate 10 while covering the TFTs 1; a common electrode 14 arranged on the first insulating film 13; a second insulating film 15 arranged on the first insulating film 13 while covering the common electrode 14; and a pixel electrode 16 which is arranged on the second insulating film 15 in a pixel region 1A and having a plurality of slits 16a which are connected to the TFTs 1 via contact holes disposed on the second insulating film 15 and the first insulating film 13, wherein the common electrode 14 is disposed while covering the pixel region 10A except formation regions of the contact holes on the first insulating film 13 and at least one of the scanning lines 11 and the signal lines 12.
