PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine for surely increasing a recirculating quantity of exhaust gas to a specific cylinder provided with a cylinder internal pressure sensor among a plurality of cylinders, more than the other cylinder. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine has the plurality of cylinders 11, the cylinder internal pressure sensor 60 arranged in the specific cylinder among the plurality of cylinders 11 and detecting pressure in the cylinder, and an exhaust gas recirculating means for recirculating a part of the exhaust gas EG to an intake system via an EGR passage 40. The cylinder internal pressure sensor 60 is arranged to a cylinder 11A arranged nearest to the EGR passage 40 among the plurality of cylinders 11, and among respective intake manifolds 21 communicating with respective intake ports of the plurality of cylinders 11, the passage cross-sectional area of the intake manifold 21A communicating with the cylinder 11A provided with the cylinder internal pressure sensor 60, is expanded more than the passage cross-sectional area of the other intake manifold 11B.
