The method involves detecting access attempt to an internal space (2) of a cargo transportation device (1) by sensors (6, 7, 8) e.g. vibration sensors or temperature sensors. An alarm signal is produced by a control device (9). A request signal is transmitted to an external identification (ID) transmitter (11) e.g. active radio frequency ID transmitter, by a transmitting unit (10) to request the transmitter to transmit a detection signal that is received by a receiving device (12) and checked in a detection device (13). The alarm signal is deactivated after checking the detection signal. An independent claim is also included for a system for monitoring an internal space of a cargo transportation device.
