PURPOSE: A washing apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to reduce drying time by supplying the radiant heat of a halogen lamp to laundry by forming the halogen lamp in the front opening of a tub. CONSTITUTION: A washing apparatus comprises a cabinet(110), a tub(120) which is installed in the inner side of the cabinet, a drum(130) which is pivotally installed in the inner side of the tub, a halogen lamp(180) which is installed in the front opening of the tub and wherein the radiant heat of the halogen lamp is induced in the drum through the front opening formed in the tub and the drum, and a controller which controls the lighting of the halogen lamp in order to turn on/off when laundry is dehydrated.
