PURPOSE: A definition enhancement method capable of improving image quality during an image communication function performance and a portable terminal performing the same are provided to improve picture quality of recognized face area and transmit the face area to opponent portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(120) recognizes a face area from an image collected through a camera unit. The control unit sets quantization coefficient in the recognized face area. The control unit compresses the face area to an image frame. The control unit modulates the compressed image frame into image packet. A wireless communication unit(150) transmits the image packet to the opponent portable terminal.
