The device (7) has a mixer (5) i.e. static mixer, provided in downstream of a urea injection unit (3) e.g. injector, arranged in an exhaust line (2). A catalytic denitrification system (6) is arranged in downstream of the mixer. Isocyanic acid hydrolysis catalyst i.e. metal oxide based catalyst, is deposited on a part of a surface of mixing elements of the mixer. The system includes a solid acid system based on vanadium oxide, based on tungsten oxide and vanadium or titanium oxide or molybdenum oxide, titanium oxide or zeolites exchanged by an element such as iron, copper and cerium. An independent claim is also included for a method for treating exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides.
