PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus wherein a release time lag is short when photographing a still picture by switching from a motion picture photographing mode to a still picture photographing mode. SOLUTION: When photographing a still picture by pressing a still picture photographing trigger button 311 to switch from a motion picture photographing mode to a still picture photographing mode, between exposure control and auto-focusing, a focusing operation that is a main factor of a release time lag is started just after a motion picture program diagram is switched to a still picture program diagram.
