<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for maintaining the safety of communication on the EPON. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for maintaining the safety of communication on the EPON having the OLT and a plurality of ONUs includes (A) step which codes a first type packet by a first shortMACsec header and a first predetermined SAK, in which the first type packet is transmitted from the OLT to one ONU of a plurality of ONUs through the EPON and (B) step which transmits a second type packet having a second shortMACsec header from the OLT to the ONU, in which the second type packet is coded by a second predetermined SAK.
