<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a deterioration of efficiency in a data refresh operation while coping with interruption of a power supply. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A CPU 115 controls, with assumption that L is a natural number: a refresh-data read operation for reading L blocks of data by a head 102 from a track to be refreshed on a disk 101; a backup-write operation for writing the read data by the head 102 to a backup-track on the disk 101; and a refresh-write operation for writing the read data to an original storage area of the track to be refreshed. The CPU 115 also sets, with assumption that N is a natural number, the number L of blocks to a value satisfying conditions for completing the backup operation and the refresh-write operation within a time corresponding to N revolutions of the disk 101.
