<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper width detection apparatus capable of surely detecting a paper size with a simple constitution, by instantly determining the paper size. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This paper width detection apparatus has a plurality of lever members 121 lined in parallel in the paper width direction of a recording paper roll 10 installed in a recording paper roll loading part 110 and rotatably arranging each lever member 121 on the same center axis, a detecting part 122 for detecting a rotation state of the lever members 121, and a determining part for determining a paper width of the recording paper roll 10 based on a detection result detected by the detecting part 122. Among the plurality of lever members 121, one lever member 121 rotates in the first rotation direction about the center axis by abutting on an outer peripheral part of a holding part for holding both end parts of the recording paper roll 10. Another lever member 121 positioned on the inner side in the paper width direction facing the recording paper roll 10 than the lever member 121 abutting on the holding part, rotates in conjunction with the lever member 121 abutting on the outer peripheral part of the holding part.
