The invention relates to a method for controlling the traffic in a telecommunication network, including the following steps: after the network receives an initial registration request, and if the network is capable of handling said initial registration request, it prescribes a registration refreshing period, randomly selected from between a predetermined minimum (PREImin) and maximum value (PREImax), to the terminal sending the request; and, after the network receives a registration refreshing request, it prescribes a registration refreshing period, which is equal to the value (PRE) provided for the normal operation of the network, to the terminal sending the request.
