PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method by which an arithmetic operation can be completed within a limited time while guaranteeing precision, when emergency avoidance is requested just like an object to be avoided is found. SOLUTION: The vehicle control device is configured to detect an object to be avoided by controlling a detection part, and to measure a distance to the object, and to select braking avoidance or steering avoidance based on the measured distance, and to set a formula having variables only in a vertical direction as a conditional formula when the braking avoidance is selected, and to set a formula having variables only in a horizontal direction as a conditional formula when the steering avoidance is selected, and to calculate the future traveling orbit of the vehicle based on the set conditional formula.
