<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal rating plug that can be used on any circuit breaker that has a current sensor having a rated value equal to or greater than the rated value of the rating plug on a rating plug for an electronic trip unit removably fixed on a circuit breaker. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An electronic trip unit 100 includes the rating plug 110, a micro processor 140, and a gain control unit 120. The rating plug 110 has a housing, and a plurality of switches SW1-SW8 incorporated in the housing. The plurality of switches SW1-SW8 respectively can have either one of two values, and based on the settings, a digital signature associated with the rating plug is issued.
