A wind turbine is provided which includes a central structure and a plurality of wind capturing elements which are pivotally mounted to the central structure by pivot mounts and which are spaced around the central structure. A deployment structure which includes a pivot arm and a plurality of extension arms operatively connect the central structure and the wind capturing elements for alternately extending and retracting a trailing edge of the wind capturing elements relative to the central structure during rotation. When wind is received on the wind turbine, the pivot mounts rotate about one axis of rotation, and the extension arms rotate about a second axis, whereby the pivotal connection between the extension arms subscribe a different circle than the pivot mounts. When the wind capturing elements are in an extended position relative to the central structure, they capture wind causing the central structure to rotate, whereas when the wind capturing elements are in a relatively retracted position, they serve to deflect the wind.
