An image processing apparatus is provided with a local background image generation unit which generates a local background image from a picked-up real image transmitted from an image display apparatus; and an external image revising unit which sets a target area on the basis of the local background image and an external image input from the outside, and revises the target area of the external image by decreasing the sharpness thereof.
