摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel consumption by engaging a lock-up clutch for a period of time extended as long as possible. SOLUTION: The lock-up clutch 2 is provided between an input member 3a, to which power is delivered from a power source 1, and an output member 3b for transmitting power through fluid from the input member 3a. The controller for the lock-up clutch 2 controls to engage or disengage the lock-up clutch 2 based on a level of mechanical vibration or sound pressure delivered through the lock-up clutch 2 when caused to engage the lock-up clutch 2. The controller includes a determining means for determining the level of mechanical vibration or sound pressure allowable to a vehicle installed with the power source 1 and the lock-up clutch 2, and an engagement reference-value varying means for setting an operating state of the power source 1, for the lock-up clutch 2 to engage, to relatively high load or the low number of revolutions when the level, determined by the allowance determining means, lies at a level that permits large mechanical vibration or sound pressure.
