PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the production efficiency of a polyester resin in the method for preparation of polyester. SOLUTION: The method for preparation of a polyester resin includes the esterification reaction of an alcohol component with an acid component containing polyvalent carboxylic acid and/or an ester-forming derivative in a reaction solution. The condition for reaction pressure is changed from a pressurizing to ordinary pressure or reduced pressure under the following conditions of: (I) 76-94% reaction rate of an esterification reaction on the basis of acid standard; and (II) the presence of an undissolved acid component in the reaction solution.
