The method involves recording information regarding traffic or driving situation in a continuous journey of a motor vehicle (S1). A target size is determined (S2) regarding a maximum energy supply to a drive of the motor vehicle to continue journey taking into account the recorded information. A target acceleration predetermined by a driver of the motor vehicle is recorded (S3) and an actual acceleration is determined (S4) taking into account the determined target size and the predetermined target acceleration. The motor vehicle is accelerated (S5) with the actual acceleration. An independent claim is also included for a speed-control system for a motor vehicle.
