CATHODE MATERIALS AND LITHIUM SECONDARY BATTERY CONTAINING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A cathode active material and a secondary lithium battery are provided to prevent the degradation of battery performance, to obtain excellent thermal stability, and to have high capacity when the cathode active material is introduced to the secondary lithium battery. CONSTITUTION: A cathode active material is comprised of a lithium nickel-based oxide which is marked as a chemical formula of Li_xNi_yM_(1-y)O_2. The lithium nickel-based oxide has the content of nickel more than 40% among total transition metal. A coating layer comprising a nonreactive material is formed on the surface of the lithium nickel-based oxide. The nonreactive material is oxide, nitride, sulfide which does not react with an electrolyte.
