<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rational anti-panic mechanism for a vehicle door latch device. <P>SOLUTION: When a lock lever 30 is displaced from a lock position L into an unlock position U in a state of an open lever 27 being displaced into a door opening operation position, an anti-panic spring 36 is resiliently displaced to switch the lock lever 30 into the unlock position U without moving an operating piece 35. The operating piece 35 and the lock lever 30 are arranged overlapped to rotate around a locking shaft 31, and an open link 40 is provided with a guide slot 41. The operating piece 35 is provided with a pin part 39 slidably engaged with the guide slot 41. The lock lever 30 is held into the lock position L or unlock position U by an over center spring 34.
