<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform the moving operation of a monitor connected to an apparatus body via a free arm mechanism and a tilting mechanism to an optionally selected position by the free arm mechanism and the tilting operation at an optionally selected angle by the tilting mechanism, by one hand. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus includes: the apparatus body 2; the free arm mechanism 5 with one end coupled to the apparatus body 2 and the other end to which the monitor 8 is coupled for moving the monitor 8 to an optionally selected position; the tilting mechanism 6, disposed at the place where the monitor 8 is coupled to the free arm mechanism 5, for tilting the monitor 8 at an optionally selected angle; and a clutch mechanism 7 capable of being shifted between a first shifted position to restrain the tilting motion of the monitor 8 by the tilting mechanism 6 and a second shifted position to permit the tilting motion of the monitor 8 by the tilting mechanism 6.
